Brakes

Brakes are a critical safety item and to provide maximum stopping power your brakes must be at optimum braking efficiency.

Like all mechanical components, brakes will deteriote over time; but because it happens gradually it is sometimes difficult to notice the difference.

Regular brake checks and maintenance are of great importance for the safety of your vehicle and help reduce the possibility of more costly bills in the future.

Brakes are used to slow down a vehicle by converting its kinetic energy into heat. The basic hydraulic system, most commonly used, usually has six main stages. The brake pedal, the brake boost (vacuum servo), the master cylinder, the apportioning valves and finally the road wheel brakes themselves.

There are a few tell tale signs if your brakes need attention:

  • If you have heard a grinding noise when braking your pads could be excessively worn and could have possibly caused damaged to your brake discs
  • If the car pulls to one side under braking, this is usually indication of a seized mechanical or hydraulic component
  • If your brake pedal feels 'spongy' there could be air in the hydraulic system
  • When was your brake fluid last changed? Most manufacturer's recommend a brake fluid change every 2-3 years. So if your car has not had a brake fluid service for a few years, chances are that a fluid change will make a huge difference.

We use the latest equipment to carry out these essential safety checks and only fit brakes that are made to original equipment standards meaning that you are guaranteed the highest levels of safety as designed by your vehicle manufacturer. All parts are guaranteed for 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever is sooner).
